This weekend, we’re going to have a little fun at Stitch-Maps.com: we’re going to have an Easter egg hunt.
From Friday through Sunday, sprinkled throughout the site you’ll find little Easter egg icons, like this one: Click on each egg you find, and it’ll change from “hidden” to “found,” like so: The person that finds the most eggs wins a copy of my Knitting Charts DVD – which covers stitch maps as well as traditional charts – and $15 off a subscription at Stitch-Maps.com. That’s a whole year’s worth of a basic subscription!
The fine print:
- You must have an account at Stitch-Maps.com to play along. It can be a free account; it doesn’t have to be a subscription. If you don’t have an account, or if you’re not logged into your account, you won’t see the Easter eggs.
- The Easter egg hunt will run from Friday through Sunday, Pacific Daylight Time.
- The winner will be contacted via email on Monday, 21 April 2014.
- In the case of a tie, a winner will be chosen at random.
- The $15 discount can be applied to a new subscription, or – if you already have a subscription – to your next scheduled subscription payment.

German and Russian translations of the symbol key are now available! Many thanks to Silke (aka calanau) and the members of the German Knitters group on Ravelry for the German translation, and to Katharina, Natalia, and E.I. for the Russian translation.
Want to help translate the key into another language? Let’s talk!

Do you have favorite stitch patterns? Sure you do! Everybody does.
Now subscribers can maintain a list of favorites at Stitch-Maps.com. Just click the “Add to favorites list” icon next to the name of a favorite stitch pattern, on either the Browse page or the stitch pattern’s detail page:
Doing so will add that stitch pattern to your favorites list:
Bonus! You can select the “In favorites list ” checkbox on the Browse page to see all your favorites:
Note that this feature is another perk of subscribing to Stitch-Maps.com. Not a subscriber yet? A basic subscription is only $15 per year, and comes with a free, no-obligation, 30-day trial. So you can give the favorites feature a try before deciding if you want to stick with a subscription.
Enjoy!

Just a heads-up: I’ve changed the way a stitch pattern’s detail page responds when you request to see the stitch map with different view options: more or fewer repeats, with or without column or row guides, that sort of thing. Instead of fetching an entire new web page, it now fetches just those portions of the page that have changed, such as the stitch map image and the cast-on count. This ought to:
- Make the site feel more responsive. Less stuff being transmitted over the Internet = less time waiting for stuff.
- Preserve the size of your stitch map viewport. If you’ve enlarged the viewport, changing a view option won’t cause the viewport to shrink back to its default size.
- Let you fiddle with more than one view option at once. Previously, while waiting for a change in one view option to take effect, you couldn’t change any other view option – the view option controls would be disabled. Now, you can fiddle away – and the result of all that fiddling will be displayed ASAP.
Subtle changes, to be sure, but I hope you like them! Note that you might need to refresh your browser to see these changes. And, please, if anything seems screwy to you – if the stitch pattern detail pages don’t behave as you expect – let me know!
Caveat: Like the improved tags and resize handles, this trickery comes to you courtesy of JavaScript. If you have JavaScript disabled in your browser, each stitch pattern’s detail page will behave as before.
