Improved error messages

Posted 1 Feb 2013 by JC

Silly little typos are enough to create a roadblock when attempting to contribute a new pattern to the collection. But recent changes to Stitch-Maps.com ought to make that process a tiny bit easier. Obscure error messages have been replaced by “friendlier” and hopefully more meaningful messages.

Here’s an example. Say you enter this:

Row 1 (WS): Knit.
Row 2: *K2fog, yo, repeat from *, k1.
Rows 3 and 4: Knit.

Whoops! It contains a typo. But instead of the cryptic invalid token: k2fog, you’ll now see We don’t know what “K2fog” means. You’ll also be told that K2fog is on row 2.

An earth-shattering improvement? Perhaps not. But it ought to make contributions a tad easier to make. Give it a try!
