Shetland Bird's Eye Pattern

I love this stitch, but find it hard not to make mistakes in it. The photo is my third attempt at knitting a swatch, and even in this I started to make mistakes towards the top and didn't carry on. I've devised an easier but much less elegant version - Big Bird's Eye.
