(Or, as Mrs. Gaugain says in explanation of an asterisk after the double decrease: "See remark on this in the preceding Stocking Receipt. — At the end of every front row you will have an odd stitch, which belongs to the A at the beginning of the row, which cannot be used to finish ; the work not being round, the stitch is always worked plain, but is not marked in the receipt ; consequently, being the last on the front rows, it will be the first on the back rows ; therefore work it off plain, then proceed as in receipt for back row.")
