Ribbed Leaf Lace

An easy, fairly 'dramatic' improvement on a vertical lace pattern that adds a dominant center line to the leaf. Easy to memorize; 8 row repeat. Multiple of 10 sts plus 8. Cast on 27 sts to work sample. If using this as the bottom of a shawl, begin with a stretchy cast on like the Lace Cast On. Google for video. NOTE: These instructions include a narrow 3-garter-st border, so no finishing is required on the right and left edges.

Lace Cast On: 1) Make a slip knot, place it on the left ndl. 2) Pass the R ndl thru the bk of the sl knot, catch the working end of the yarn, and pull it thru. Without twisting the loop, place it on the L hand ndl. 3) Cont in this way, working into the front of ec loop (for next row knit) or the bk of ec loop (for nx row purled). The finished edge is lacy, but sturdy and firm.

s2kpo: slip 2 sts as if to k them tog (but do not k), k1 into the nx st, then pass the 2 slipped sts over the k1 st. This decrease is made over the center line of the leaf shape. The 2 slipped sts are the center line st and the st to the right of it. (Stitch-Maps req'd this instruction: sl2-k1-p2sso)
