Big Book of Knitting Stitch Patterns p. 154

The book says to work k5 together as ssssk: slip each of the next four stitches knitwise, k1, then pass the slipped stitches over. It might not be necessary to make the right effect, though.

1-to-5 increase: work (p1, k1, p1, k1, p1) in next stitch.

  • Rows 1 and 5 (RS): Knit.
  • Rows 2 and 6: Purl.
  • Row 3: K3, *k5tog, k1, repeat from * to last 2 sts, k2 (multiple of 2 sts, plus 5).
  • Row 4: P3, *1-to-5 inc, p1, repeat from * to last 2 sts, p2 (multiple of 6 sts, plus 5).
  • Row 7: K5tog, *k1, k5tog, repeat from * (multiple of 2 sts, plus 1).
  • Row 8: 1-To-5 inc, *p1, 1-to-5 inc, repeat from * (multiple of 6 sts, plus 5).
