Since "bring the wool forward, slip 1 the reverse way" seems to mean "yarn over, slip one", and that is currently more commonly seen as a brioche stitch, this map uses brSl. Since the stitch worked into that brSl is noted as a simple k rather than a k2tog, the cast on is calculated as 14 sts: if that is too few, cast on 20 (as stated in the book), and work k2tog after the brSl stitches.
The instructions call for "3 colours of German wool", and state that "Four quarters of each colour make the round." Once all 12 wedges are made (and all stitches are bound off on the final repeat of row 14), "sew the two sides together, and make it up with a button in the centre."
Shown with a cast-on count of 14 stitches.
