1887 Boston Globe Knitted Dish Cover

Cast on a multiple of 14. Original pattern was 406 sts using no 6 Morse & Kaley's knitting cotton and "medium size steel needles".

Repeat rows 1 to 28 four times

Repeat rounds 27 and 28, but don't work any increases. Continue repeating these two rounds until there are 3 sts between decreases.

Knit 2 rounds, purl 1 round.

Knit 1 round, purl 1 round, k1 round, cast off.

Knit 1 round, purl 1 round, k1 round, cast off.

When finished, run a small cord through the eyelets at the bottom, or part last knit, tying it so as to draw it a little way under the dish.

At the top, draw out a loop from each point and pass through them a small rubber cord, tying it do as to bring the points of the cover just over the upper edge of the dish. Do up in thin starch, pushing out the acorn like points with the finger to a uniform size.
