Gnarled Cables

I read about Gnarled Cables in the Walker Treasury Project.
I started with the Gnarled Cable Beret pattern and then did some mods.
Lately I read this post: http://www.ravelry.com/discuss/techniques/2588044#5

I am sure I understood the basic idea and now I have to do some knitting to find out my preferred cable. Will be back soon. Hopefully.

I am thinking about some 4/3 cables... And maybe I will replace increase stitches with yo. Let's see how it turns out.

I am sure I understood the basic idea and now I have to do some knitting to find out my preferred cable. Will be back soon. Hopefully.

I am thinking about some 4/3 cables... And maybe I will replace increase stitches with yo. Let's see how it turns out.

Parameters to play with:

1 stitch count: 7, 8, 9 stitches for the cable?
2 type of increases: with or without holes?
3 row count: how many rows between the cable rows? 4 direction of cables: front or back or combined?
5 cables section in stockinette stitch?
6 where do I place the first and the last cable row?

ssk: I am using improved ssk.

Shown with a cast-on count of 22 stitches.   Getting chart...

  • Row 1 (RS): *P2, k8, repeat from * to last 2 sts, p2.
  • Rows 2, 4, 6, 10, 12, 14, 18, 20, and 22: *K2, p8, repeat from * to last 2 sts, k2.
  • Rows 3, 5, 7, 17, 19, and 21: *P2, incR, k6, k2tog, repeat from * to last 2 sts, p2.
  • Row 8: *K2, 4/4 RC, repeat from * to last 2 sts, k2.
  • Rows 9, 11, 13, and 15: *P2, ssk, k6, incL, repeat from * to last 2 sts, p2.
  • Row 16: *K2, 4/4 LC, repeat from * to last 2 sts, k2.
  • Repeat rows 3-18.
