Rosebud Mesh

From A Second Treasury of Knitting Patterns by Barbara Walker, page 287. Before knowing about Stitch Maps I tried to chart this pattern, but found it difficult to handle the changing stitch count. So I made a rough "free-form" chart without vertical grid lines, realising that this could usefully also show the proper vertical alignment of the stitches (see photo). Later I wondered if somebody had thought of this before, and indeed they had. I'm so pleased to have discovered this site.

  • Row 1 (RS): K2tog, *yo, k3, yo, (k1, p1) in next st, yo, k3, yo, sl1-k2tog-psso, repeat from * to last 9 sts, yo, k3, yo, (k1, p1) in next st, yo, k3, yo, ssk (multiple of 13 sts, plus 14).
  • Rows 2, 4, 6, and 8: Purl.
  • Row 3: Ssk, *yo, sl2-k1-p2sso, yo, k2tog, yo, ssk, yo, sl2-k1-p2sso, yo, sl2-k1-p2sso, repeat from * to last 12 sts, yo, sl2-k1-p2sso, yo, k2tog, yo, ssk, yo, sl2-k1-p2sso, yo, k2tog (multiple of 10 sts, plus 11).
  • Row 5: K2, *k2tog, yo, k3, yo, ssk, k3, repeat from * to last 9 sts, k2tog, yo, k3, yo, ssk, k2.
  • Row 7: K1, *k2tog, yo, k1 tbl, yo, sl1-k2tog-psso, yo, k1 tbl, yo, ssk, k1, repeat from * to last 10 sts, k2tog, yo, k1 tbl, yo, sl1-k2tog-psso, yo, k1 tbl, yo, ssk, k1.
