I've used purled garter stitch (my preference) and yo instead of kfb (quicker to work).
All rows are identical. If you change colours every two rows, the change should be on the wrong side.
For a less lacy effect the yo could be replaced by m1.
Shown with a cast-on count of 36 stitches.

- Row 1 (RS): *P5, p2tog, p5, yo, repeat from * to last 12 sts, p5, p2tog, p4, pfb.
- Row 2: *P5, p2tog, p5, yo, repeat from * to last 12 sts, p5, p2tog, p4, pfb.
Cast-on count
- multiple of 12 stitches, plus 12
