Sugar-Plum Stitch
From the Project Gutenberg version of Exercises in Knitting by Cornelia Mee.
The pattern calls for an odd number of stitches, but doesn't specify how to handle the selvages. (And I don't know enough about linen stitch to have much of an opinion, so I just made those edge stitches stockinette.)
Shown with a cast-on count of 7 stitches.
- Row 1 (RS): *K1, sl1 wyif, repeat from * to last st, k1.
- Row 2: P1, *p1, sl1 wyib, repeat from * to last 2 sts, p2.

- multiple of 2 stitches, plus 3
