Stacked Horned Owls, Bottom-up

Wendy Bernard's "Japanese Stitches Unraveled", p 153. The author has both a top-down and a bottom-up version. This pattern needs to have purl stitches before and after each row to make the design "pop". TBH, I put this pattern in Stitch Maps because I don't think it is correct - it's missing the owl's head. Other designers who have written up this stitch and I recommend using one of those.

  • Rows 1 and 5 (RS): *2/2 RC, 2/2 LC, repeat from *.
  • Rows 2, 4, 6, and 8: Knit.
  • Rows 3, 7, and 9: Purl.
  • Rows 10, 12, 14, and 16: *P2, k4, p2, repeat from *.
  • Rows 11, 13, 15, and 17: Knit.
  • Row 18: Purl.
