CO 8 with Judy's Magic Cast On (I used the tutorial found in PURL Magazine, Issue 1, Cast On, Autumn 2026 - page 125). Put 8 sts on waste yarn/barber cord.
Variation on WS rows: last k1 tbl
On Row 8 you slip the first stitch (purlwise wyib), then k1, psso, and that's your first BO. Continue to bind-off sts until you have 9 sts left on lh needle, k4, p3tog, k2 (8 sts). The designer's pattern notes are not very clear on this.
Used Kitchener stitch (sans set-up) with the tail end of the CO to join both ends in the round.
Picked up 56 sts with ball end yarn (so I don't have to cut my yarn) to continue with the cable pattern.
Shown with a cast-on count of 8 stitches.
