sock yarn with 2mm needles, 36st x 44st gauge Worked in rows, not rounds. it will be grafted and sts picked up along the left hand edge for the glove portion. The beginning 9 sts of each row are folded and knit together with the corresponding p st 14 sts into the pattern. this works out because stockinette is more relaxed than cables. Ie: Round 1: Again, this is worked in rows, not rounds. Beginning with 4.5mm needles: k1 and transfer to stitch holder, k8, change to 2mm needles p1, k2 tbl, p1, k1 tbl, p1, p2tog joining the first knit st to this st. First stitch of each k9 will be picked up from behind the p2tog. This technique creates a narrow hem as the fabric is knit. Retain first stitch on stitch holder and last stitch waste yarn as viewed from right side. As this is knit in rows, the last st will be garter to facilitate picking up sts to work the next glove section. Make sure the number of rows is divisible by 10 for the rib to work even, if not, adjust by evenly increasing or decreasing as necessary, increasing is ideal. After grafting the first row (not necessarily the cast on row) and last row, pick up stitches around garter edge as follows. Alternate picking up knit sts over wrong side rows and purl sts over right side rows for 1x1 rib. I chose 8 repeats of 12 rows totaling 96 rows for an 8" cuff while maintaining the 6 st repeat for the 4x2 rib pattern. It may be necessary to pick up extra sts so the 4x2 rib works evenly. DO NOT DECREASE on the initial round. Next round, ssk 4 times, p2 around for 4x2 rib.
NOTE: Even and odd rows need to be transposed for the outer twisted st bands so that they line up better with the "cable row vs resting row" style established by the main motif.
Shown with a cast-on count of 45 stitches.
