Stepping stones
I took a little motif that looked like a chart for stranded knitting, turned the marked squares into yarn overs, and then figured out where to put decreases to make lace that worked. This is my blog post about the process

- Row 1 (RS): K1, *k1, k2tog, [yo] twice, ssk, repeat from * to last st, k1.
- Rows 2 and 6: K1, *p1, k1, p3, repeat from * to last st, k1.
- Row 3: K1, *k2tog, k1, k2tog, [yo] twice, repeat from * to last st, k1.
- Row 4: K1, *k1, p4, repeat from * to last st, k1.
- Row 5: K1, *yo, ssk, [yo] twice, sl1-k2tog-psso, repeat from * to last st, k1.
- Row 7: K1, *sl2-k1-p2sso, [yo] twice, k2tog, yo, repeat from * to last st, k1.
- Rows 8 and 12: K1, *p2, k1, p2, repeat from * to last st, k1.
- Row 9: K1, *[yo] twice, ssk, k1, ssk, repeat from * to last st, k1.
- Row 10: K1, *p3, k1, p1, repeat from * to last st, k1.
- Row 11: K1, *k2tog, [yo] twice, ssk, k1, repeat from * to last st, k1.
