Plaited cables
This is pattern 75 in "Field Guide to Knitting" by Jackie Pawlowski. It's a great little book, but I found the instructions for this pattern confusing at first. It's not clear that in some rows there are repeats within the repeat, and the description "16 stitch + 8 repeat" is ambiguous and a format not used elsewhere in the book. The photo doesn't help as it doesn't show how the pattern repeats. There's also an error in row 7 in the book: the p2 after the repeat asterisk should be deleted.

- Rows 1 and 9 (RS): P2, 2/2 RC, *p4, 2/2 RC, p4, 2/2 RC, repeat from * to last 2 sts, p2.
- Rows 2, 8, 10, and 16: K2, p4, *k4, p4, k4, p4, repeat from * to last 2 sts, k2.
- Row 3: P2, k2, *[2/2 LPC, 2/2 RPC] twice, repeat from * to last 4 sts, k2, p2.
- Rows 4 and 6: K2, p2, *k2, p4, k4, p4, k2, repeat from * to last 4 sts, p2, k2.
- Row 5: P2, k2, *p2, 2/2 LC, p4, 2/2 LC, p2, repeat from * to last 4 sts, k2, p2.
- Row 7: P2, k2, *2/2 RPC, 2/2 LPC, 2/2 RPC, 2/2 LPC, repeat from * to last 4 sts, k2, p2.
- Row 11: P2, k4, *p2, 2/2 RPC, 2/2 LPC, p2, k4, repeat from * to last 2 sts, p2.
- Rows 12 and 14: K2, p4, *k2, p2, k4, p2, k2, p4, repeat from * to last 2 sts, k2.
